Wikis
This week's assignment is to talk about wikis. They can certainly be a wonderful tool if the information added is correct and there is nothing that will mislead the reader. I can understand why teachers do not allow wikis as a source for papers, but then how are we to know that other acceptable websites are not slanted toward the author's opinion or beliefs? The best way to know if the item is indeed correct, a citing should be with the information. This is where the libraries come in. Many libraries have created their own wiki. It certainly helped where it is difficult to find books on a particular subject. Someone(or more)have done research on a particular subject and have included information from several sources to make the entry easy to understand and full of information for those looking for it. If there are cites of information the reader would be tempted to actually get the source and explore further. For most people, I think, the wikis just fill in enough information for the viewer to gain a little knowledge on the subject.
