Virginia Flagstones

I have been inspired by the flagstones laying in my parents driveway to create a quilt for Color Box Patterns. I think that the simple squares and rectangles will be perfect for displaying those wonderful fabrics that nobody wants to cut. Thank goodness I went ahead and bought my EQ7 to do the designing. I have been an EQer since 2000 and just love the program, not to mention all the wonderful new features! Thanks EQ!

Farmer's Wife Class

I spoke too soon on the continuing class. By mutual agreement the class has been canceled due to lack of interest and participation. I will finish mine.

New Classes

The "Not So Straight Furrows" was completed and the finished quilt delivered to the designer of my website www.colorboxpatterns.com The final quilt was so big I was not able to put it into one photograph! King size is very big! Anyway it was well received and he was delighted!

I will be teaching another of my patterns on Monday January 17, 2011 at the Country Crossroads Quilt Shop in Orange Park, FL. The pattern we will be working on is "Blowing in the Wind" It is a rather simple pattern but comes out with much movement and is fun to do. Each month I will be teaching a new pattern.

The Farmer's Wife group will continue to meet on the third Thursday. Looking forward to finishing mine! More about this later.

New Project

I am starting the quilt for payment of my website. I am using one of my patterns for the quilt, "Not So Straight Furrows". They wanted earth tones, I hope this is what they wanted. I have about 1/4 of the blocks done. I will be adding more light neutrals, browns, greens, grays and a few orange/reds. I am using batiks and fabrics that look like batiks or hand dyes. I hope the quilt will be everything expected!

End of Vacation

Washed and ironed all the fabric I bought in VA while on "vacation". I have started a new quilt, only this one is for payment for my website www.colorboxpatterns.com and I am making the pattern "Not so Straight Furrows" . I am using batiks in earth tones. I am introducing blues and some pinks and purples to the general earth tone hues. So far it only has three blocks done and looks great! When I get it finished there will definitely picture(s) posted!

I'll be going back to work tomorrow. The Quilt Camp girls will be meeting tomorrow and getting the November block for our year long quilt. Next year, we will start meeting on the 4th Saturday of each month. It will work out much better, I think, as there are a lot of classes, programs and other quilting activities on the first, second, and third Saturdays. Nothing much happens on the fourth Saturday, so this will be perfect!

I have another shop selling my patterns. It is Creative Quilting in Roanoke, VA. Wonderful shop. I always find something that I can't find anywhere else. I was able to find really neat batiks for my "Two Peacocks: Homage to Koson Ohare (1877-1945)". They are the tree barks the peacocks are sitting on. I was awarded Honorable Mention in the Challenge at QuiltFest this year.

Antique Quilts at the Emporium

Got to see some lovely antique quilts at the Strasburg Emporium. This quilt was hand quilted with such tiny, tiny uniform stitches! It must have taken a long time to quilt. The antique dealer thought this was circa the early 1900's. It was in wonderful condition, but had a cigarette burn in it as the only flaw.

You can see how close the quilting is!

This was a quilt done in the 1890's that is completely machine pieced and quilted! Note the humility blocks (second and fifth down in first colomn)!
The compass quilt to the left was just as beautiful. Unusual variation and lots of quilting! It was also dated to the 1890's.

I'm Back!

Long time, but I'm back. I have been quiltting and doing other things and have not had time to do the fun stuff. I have a new pattern company. It is called Color Box Patterns. You can find the website at http://www.colorboxpatterns.com/. It is currently under construction but keep checking!

I just visited a lovely quilt shop, Webfabrics.com, in Purceville, VA.(www.webfabrics.com) They have over 6,000 bolts of fabric. They have a wonderful on-line service as well. Hopefully they will be carrying my line of patterns with all their wonderful merchandise.

I do have two shops carrying the patterns, they are Country Crossroads Quilt Shop in Orange Park , FL (http://www.countrycrossroad.com) and Sew What Fabrics/Batiks, Etc. in Wytheville, VA.(http://www.batiks.com/) Country Crossroads has mostly bright and novelity fabrics. Great Shop! Batiks Etc. carries mostly batiks, but they do have other fabrics. They are one of my favorite shops.
